Boredom bordering Insanity / Global Warming
I am so bored it is driving me crazy. How crazy?
- I am thinking of studying (again) for another degree. This time, either in Geography (my all time dream or psychology/sociology) Although I have no idea what purpose that degree is going to serve.
- I am searching for jobs (and getting excited about it) in Brisbane.
- The stuff I am reading up on global warming and all that gives me the sudden urge to be a environmentalist. (aka Captain Planet) This ties in nicely to the degree in geography part that I am hankering about.
- I want to write a book. Currently, its only loose plot that is swirling around my head. And I am thinking of writing a book for a crook's point of view (ie. an abusive mother, serial killer/rapist bla bla bla's point of view). Then again, how would a violence intolerant war-hating girl to write from a crook's point of view?? Please just don't ask.
- I am hoping to pack up my stuff and leave Singapore either for good or a real long backpack-ish holiday. The destinations for backpacking are endless. Though if I were to leave Singapore for good, it'll definitely me Aussie-land. (And this ties in with the searching for jobs in Brisbane part)
- Holiday-ing spots in mind now includes Phomn Pheh and Cambodia (the nearer ones) to Rome/Sicily and Czech Republic

- In the News -
It's all over the news now.
That 2 y.o toddler is finally found. Decomposed, blacken body sans eyeballs stashed underneath the flyover at Aljunied.
Can I just ask, whatever possessed that guy to stash the body under the flyover in the sweltering hot sun?
Though the cause of death is yet to be ascertain but speculation and rumors are rife. Newspapers did not blatantly say it, relatives did not outrightly mention it. But they are all suspecting the step-father, hinting possibilities of abuse (either physically or sexually). All fingers are pointing towards him somehow. The papers also mentioned how the paternal grandmother of the child observed that the toddler seems stressed and frightened about something, and how they were concerned about it and even brought that issue up.
From the numerous reports, print and televised interviews, it seems the Singapore media is very caught up in this recent murder. Not surprising really. But sometimes, I wish they could tone it down. It's heartwrenching to watch them stuff the camera into a crying man/lady's face and expect them to talk about how they feel about what happened.
I don't know, if it's me.. I would have chucked the camera aside and shot them all to death.
Imagine if it was you, who lost a daughter or a loved one to a murder or car accident. The reporters unrelentlessly field questions at you at the same time pointing that darn camera at your face waiting for those tears to roll. Won't you even be pissed?
Well, perhaps they did ask if it was alright to film. And then again, if the aggrieved members allowed to be filmed.. well perhaps then something's majorly wrong with them.

- Save the Earth from Global Warming. -
Yes, the environmentally friendly me is speaking up for our Planet Earth once again. I read an interesting article in today's Straits Times about Global warming. The correspondent writes for New York Times (I think, he/she wasn't specific).
It had me thinking.
Are we all that ignorant and oblivious to the natural phenomenon? Or are we plainly selfish?
How we've become so self centred in our daily lives, focusing on Guccis, pradas and Diors we forget about healing the Earth that are in itself providing for us.
Everybody knows what Global warming is, how it would in some day destroy this Earth. But how many of us are proactively doing something to save ourselves and our future? I don't think politicians and Governments are brave enough to educate and inform us the full danger that global warming poses. Because how often do we really think about it and incorporate that thought into our daily lives?
I for one am guilty of neglecting the threats of global warming. Because I live in sunny Singapore, global warming seems so far-fetched. Because I think my estimated lifespan (if nothing bad happens) is only about 80 years, I will not live long enough to experience the full effects of global warming. But I begin to realise how really selfish that thought is.
It's about returning what you have taken.
Life isn't and shouldn't all be about yourself.
I should get this and that, I am not getting this and that etc.
Always about me, myself and I.
It is sad, when we see the world falling apart by bits. Wars are creating rifts in human kind, ignorance is threatening the survival of humans in the near future and yet less than 50% of the world are doing anything about it.
In Singapore, it is hard to take a holistic view on world issues. Because we are so faraway from the problems, so small and protected it seems pointless to bother about problems affecting and crippling the world.
So sometimes, when Singaporeans choose to migrate and leave the comfort and protection of Singapore, it ain't because they are quitters. It's because the world has more to offer. WE are self centred because we are overly protected, and have grown comfortable with demanding and not giving.
Our Government perhaps have been too effective in protecting the citizens it crippled their ability to fend for themselves.
Digression aside.
Let's really start saving Planet Earth (be a planeteer).
If you have come this far, and you're utterly clueless to what I am saying and do not have an inkling on what Global Warming really is. Well, SHAME ON YOU? Where the fuck have you been? Holidaying in Planet Mars? Read about it here and stop being a fucking ignoramous for goodness sake.
If you know what Global Warming is, and hardly gave a fuck about it. (like me most of the time). Perhaps it is time to get our acts together and start practising these.

These polar bears won't be here if global warming persists, and they begin losing their homes.
