Double Standards
I need more sleep, my skin is aging RAPIDLY.
Yesterday (after work) was a major flop for me.
Dinner @ Cafe Cartel : $11.50
Brokeback Mountain movie tix : $7.50
Total spent : $19
Amount that the dinner and movie was worth? $1.00
The thing with Cafe Cartel? Their food ain't consistent in all the outlets.
The Forest of Mushrooms pasta sucked at Orchard Cine and Plaza Singapura (I realise this yesterday), but its superb at City Hall. How can you not be consistent with the quality of your food? I mean you are a restaurant for goodness sake. It makes me think twice about whether I should head down to Cartel again. A major gamble you know? Pisses me off when the food I've been craving for tastes substandard.
And so I apportion only $0.20 worth of that $1.00 to dinner.
It's been a really long time since I caught a movie with a friend. Because of the controversies (ya right) surrounding Brokeback Mountain, it's tough getting a guy to willingly watch the movie. Let alone a bunch of guys (Barbie and friends).
Watching Brokeback Mountain brought back painful memories of Munich (the movie I caught on Saturday with the bunch of them). They were similar in many ways. Very slow paced, insufficient action, loads of talking, accented English (that had me very lost) and we really spent almost 3 hours of sitting in the cinema just waiting for the movie to end.
Brokeback Mountain was a total waste of time. I expected a whole lot more, especially since its an award winning movie can. (Golden Globes) Plus the fact that it is an Ang Lee film. I mean, I watched The Wedding Banquet, and I thought it was not bad, nice even with similar themes. But Brokeback fell short of those expectations.
There were more sex in Brokeback than in Wedding Banquet but there were far less feelings and emotions in Brokeback, probably because the entire story surrounds mostly only the 2 men. I mean how much do you expect men to emote and feel? They are the MOST unfeeling creatures on earth, and worse they're cowboys in the 1963 period.
I'd say the movie is only worth $0.80 because well, you get to see Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal kiss and make out. I've gotta say they look really cute kissing. I was a little squirmish at first, because here you are 2 grown men kissing so passionately to the point you get real uncomfortable. Add the beautiful scenic mountains to the kissing scene, and you actually have your very typical romance flick. Just that this time round, its 2 guys. Though really, Wyoming seems like a really really nice place. Perhaps some day I will attempt to visit.
All in all, the movie was plain and boring.
Gah.
Let's hope Underworld Evolution will redeem it all.
I ain't looking forward to my driving lesson later. If not for the 5 lessons that I have already paid up.. I think I would have already backed out.
Tell me 6pm at Ubi will be a ghost town.
