Celebrate Valentine's Day

I truly got sick of the number of times I hear the words "celebrate valentine's day"
It comes in various forms.
So how did you celebrate valentine's day
Did you celebrate valentine's day
what did you do to celebrate valentine's day

I didn't celebrate Valentine's Day.
There. Happy now?
I chose not to.

Though I admit to thinking about it and planning for it. I surfed the web for restaurants that I thought were cool and should try out, balked at the ridiculous prices that some hotels charge, including the sky dining and Mount Faber. Worked through ideas to think up something. Half way through all that net surfing, I gave up researching for on a nice place to dine, or rather for particular activities for V-Day. I realise I really couldn't go through with the entire deal. It would feel almost awkward for me to celebrate V-Day.
Looking through those set dinners or those Valentine's Day special made me nauseous. Worse yet, I hated the way brochures love to describe every sickly detail.
Enjoy a romantic dinner with your Valentine on this special day with a candlelight dinner for 2 by the river. Bask in the moonlight and be swept away by our live band etc etc.
No, I made that up.
But you've gotta agree with me that they all sound the same.
I hate it.

Romance is not in the where you dine but who you dine with.
It can also be romantic if you dine with your valentine at the hawker centre downstairs right?
Why must it be in some chi-chi place, with dim lightings, and set dinners that everyone else in the restaurant is having? I don't know about you.. But I am never truly comfortable in those settings. I do like romantic dinners at some fancy place, but I indulge in that like once in awhile. It is hard to be comfortable in your surroundings when everyone's quiet and almost whispering. You look around and all the couples seem to be in their own world, whispering and grinning. Naturally, you feel like this is what you should be doing.
But what if I just wanted to let my hair down and laugh loudly? Hug my valentine till he squeals and yelps? Do silly things and laugh out loud?
Because that's what I enjoy and am comfortable with. But that's not what you'd get in those chi-chi restaurants where the volumes are almost like the libraries.

Submitting to celebrate Valentine's Day just like any other, wouldn't you feel just like another carbon copy? Victim of mass commercialisation?
I would.

And so, we promised not to celebrate.
Because I just so hate it.
