Enid Blyton
I am an avid reader.
I absolutely adore books.
Though I don't read as widely as some. I still read alot really.
Can you remember your first book?
I can't exactly remember mine.
But I am oh so sure it was an Enid Blyton.
The books of all books.
Before Harry Potter, it was Enid Blyton.
It was Enid Blyton who introduced me to the world of fantasies.
The elves, fairies, witches, gnomes and all those strange creatures.
I truly enjoyed every single Enid Blyton book I had.
I'd reread it, over and over.
Even till I was in secondary school.
When I am bored, I'd take it out to read.
In fact, I read so much my mother use to yell at me for reading.
Which parent in the right mind would discourage your child to stop reading?
Mine did.
Because I read instead of doing homework.
I read instead of practising my piano.
I read read read.
When we shifted house.
My Enid Blyton books disappeared.
Not before it was passed on to my siblings.
Not sure if they enjoyed Enid Blyton as much as I did.
Because even though it was just a couple of years apart, I think times were already changing.
It was no longer fashionable to read an Enid Blyton.
Just like today, Enid Blytons are always everywhere at Popular, but I hardly see parents buying them for their children anymore.
Now, its always Harry Potter, and whatever else trash there is.
In my opinion, every child should definitely read an Enid Blyton book.
It's just oh-so-wonderful.
Anyhow, I just bought 2 of my favourite Enid Blyton books yesterday.
The Enchanted Wood and The Faraway Tree.
I so totally love this two books.
Mostly because I was so fascinated really, by the enchanted wood and the faraway tree, the one in which the children would climb up and visit a different land every time.
Don't you think that the idea is just so out-of-this world?
So simple, yet it never seems to capture the interest of children (or at least those in my time).
I reread and reread it.
And I lost the book in the midst of all the shifting.
For ages, I went around searching for it.
In fact, everytime I visit Popular, I would scan through the collection of Enid Blyton books.
Thank goodness I found it yesterday.
It took quite alot to control and not yelp in joy really.
They revamped the book.
Not exactly a fan of the new layout.
The paper's too thin, no longer thick and yellowish, with that nice bookish feel.
But I shall not complain.
Afterall, its the content I am after.
And I feel just so nostalgic reading it again.
The words are all so familiar.
Thank you Enid Blyton.
You made me childhood an interesting one.
I once believed in fairies and elves.
I looked out for them amongst the trees and bushes.
I need another Enid Blyton now to transport me to the faraway land.
Takes alot of effort to be happy.
I stop putting in that effort.
Just too tired.
